My Opinion

I realize that this is just another of many stocks recently hitting a new 52 week low. IMO, 2010-2011 will be a big for the oil & gas sector. You may want to put this one on your watch list.

I am just watching this stock for now. I have not looked into their financial status.

Global Geophysical Services, Inc. has Investors Worried; GGS, PBR, GIFI

Global Geophysical Services, Inc. (GGS) [Chart (http://www.learningmarkets.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=12733&Itemid=234&company=Global-Geophysical-Services&ticker=GGS) - Analysis (http://www.learningmarkets.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=12733&Itemid=234&company=Global-Geophysical-Services&ticker=GGS) - News (http://www.learningmarkets.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=12733&Itemid=234&company=Global-Geophysical-Services&ticker=GGS)] established a new 52-week low yesterday at $6.02. Clearly investors are not enthusiastic about the firm's prospects. The decline was accompanied by higher than average volume, which adds to the momentum behind yesterday's move.

The question is, will GGS continue falling or will it turn things around and start moving higher? The stock has lost 30.77% during the past month, has a price-to-book value of 0.93 and a PEG ratio of 0.

Traders are often tempted to buy stocks hitting their arbitrary 52-week lows as a way to buy in when the stock has gone "too low." However, a 20-year study conducted by Schwab Analysts showed that, on average, buying stocks at their 52-week lows underperformed both a strategy of buying stocks at new 52-week highs and simply buying the major market indexes.

GGS competes in the Oil & Gas Drilling & Exploration industry with Petroleo Brasileiro (PBR) [Chart (http://www.learningmarkets.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=12733&Itemid=234&company=Petroleo-Brasileiro&ticker=PBR) - Analysis (http://www.learningmarkets.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=12733&Itemid=234&company=Petroleo-Brasileiro&ticker=PBR) - News (http://www.learningmarkets.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=12733&Itemid=234&company=Petroleo-Brasileiro&ticker=PBR)]---the largest firm in the industry group---and Gulf Island Fabrication Inc. GGS is likely to be sensitive to its competitors so future strength in the Oil & Gas Drilling & Exploration industry could be an early warning sign that things might be turning around.

Good post Superfly, I did not catch the insider selling. That calculates to 483,976 shares or 6,332,292 dollars, most of which transpired only in April.

There were two reasons I put GGS on my watchlist:

1.) The reward factor: 6.20 pps with a possible move to 12.00+ pps

2.) They compete with GIFI. GIFI is filling up their yard and may not be targeting projects with as much aggression as they have been.

GGS may be headed South, but I am going to keep watching them.

Thanks for the other two tickers, I will look into them as well.

GGS is up to 8.09 pps, over 30% since my first post. I sure wish I had taken a position.
